And a good whirn to ya!
04:20pm 26/07/2005
  So...it's been awhile and a ton has happened. HA! I've had a few of you pester me about updating, but I didn't want to post intill I had the 4th of July pictures up (they're up). Had a really good time, as always, blowing up fireworks, and partying with the crew. It's a wee bit sad that [info]evwan and [info]melinza are moving to Boise, but I wish them the best and hopefully they can swing by here soon.

Well, I just wanted to share the pictures. Enjoy!

The day that I burned myself...
02:24pm 20/05/2005
  with a gyroscope is today. I never thought it could happen, but myke and I were playing with one of his gyroscopes, and I as I pulled the contraption backwards, everything went wrong. The string broke, the inner spinning thing came loose and proceeded to spin rapidly on my finger...thus scorching it.

Oh well, it was funny.

[edit]

Myke mentioned that the above post didn't capture the hilarity or the ridiculousness of the situation. I agreed with him, but I don't think I posses the skill to craft words into a picture that would capture the moment. It was one of those things that you had to see to appreciate. At least, myke and I can still chuckle about it, all you others missed the boat.

A big day....
09:53am 04/05/2005
  Earlier this week, I bought two pairs of jeans. To most people that would be a very banal statement, but I haven't worn a pair of jeans in almost eight years--I haven't worn a pair of jeans by choice in almost ten years...until today.

As a part of my self betterment agenda for this year, I'm trying to conquer my inexplicable hates and fears. Today I'm wearing jeans...so far, so good.

We'll see what's in store for the rest of the day, and who knows, maybe I'll learn to love them...

Diet Coke w/ Splenda
01:40pm 02/05/2005
  After lunch we stopped by the gas station next to work for some treats. They had it; they had "Diet Coke Sweetened with Splenda." I had to try it. My initial impressions are those of confusion. The initial attack is sweeter than Diet Coke, but the after taste finishes with a little kick that reminds me of lemon. Almost as if this were Diet Lemon Splenda Coke or something. Overall, not bad, but not too good either. The more I drink it, the more the after taste becomes one that reminds me of sugar. Weird.

Yay shopping?
11:35am 02/05/2005
  Sunday was a really good day. One of the public highlights was going down to My Favorite Place Flea Market and Treasure Mart. When it was all said and done, I picked up two chairs, a piano bench (that I'm using as a table between the chairs), four soup crocks with lids, a marble cheese slicer, four martini glasses, and a collapsable wine rack for around $80. I'm really excited about the piano bench. The two chairs are identical in style, but one is stained a handsome shade of green and the other a deep red. I would like to refinish the top of the bench as a checker/chess board in those two colors--I would store the pieces in the bench. Fun! Another project on the "To Do" list!

Onions are a food of the gods
12:49pm 30/04/2005

music: nin - Love Is Not Enough
I made some kick-ass Onion Soup over at Maggie's place last night. I followed the steps outlined in the Good Eats Onion episode. It was well worth the wait and the pain. I spent several minutes slicing approximately four pounds of onions into little crescent strips--then, they cooked for about 2 hours until they were nothing but a sad, caramelized, shell of their former selves. The usual followed: wine reduction, consomme, broth, and cider. It would had been a fine soup at this point, but I spent the 45 minutes to drive to the liquor store and back to get some cognac. Wow, this was fan-fucking-tastic soup. Complete with toast and cheese topper. The cheese was the most disappointing part.

I'm looking forward to the leftovers soon.

Eyes
05:54pm 14/04/2005
  My eyes were extremely dry--I was out of eye drops. I decided to pop over to [info]naughtomaton's cube and see if he had any. He's gone, but I see them: I use them.

My eyes feel better, but I'm hoping the drops weren't laced with LSD...time will tell.

funs
10:51am 05/04/2005
  I had a really great night last night.

Maggie and I saw Sin City--I highly recommend it. We tried to see the Ring 2 last night too, but there were too many distracting people. So, we complained and got tickets to come back some other time. After the movie, we went back to my place, and I got a hair cut and color. I've got a nice little green streak in the front. I wanted to do more, but Maggie thought it best to be a little conservative. We went to bed late, and we woke up early. I made breakfast and was even going to be able to leave on time...until the car trouble. Oh well, once we got Maggie off to work, Myke and I meandered on in. I drank lots of coffee and feel very awake; I'll crash some time after lunch.

  Some where on my list of irrational fears is being eaten alive by piranhas. We've all seen the videos of a school of piranhas devouring a carcass in mere minutes, but now I've seen something slightly more disturbing: piranhas slowly pecking at one of their own until it is dead. That's right, at the Aquarium in Gatlinburg, TN, one of the first tanks you walk up to have a bunch-o-piranhas in it. Maggie and I were watching these beautiful, glimmering fishes, and we saw that one had a very small wound on its side. As we're watching this fish, another piranha swam up beside it and chomped down on its buddy. Hrm. We sat and followed this fish's struggles to stay alive for more than 10 minutes. It was quite a sad sight.

At first, it just swam away, the best it could in its little enclosure. As it became more wounded, more fish took interest, but there was never a frenzy: just casual pecks here and there. The fish became disoriented and swam upside down, bobbing from the top to the bottom of the tank. Eventually, the piranhas had ripped off all its fins, and it floated to the surface. Though without fins, it struggled back down to mid-tank, and with three or four fish attacking it; we lost sight of what was left, and the attack was taken to the dark part of the tank. During this entire episode, Maggie and I would dart from end to end watching intently. When one of us lost sight of the wounded fish, the other would point it out.

While some would say the attack was sad, what I found more disturbing was during the entire event, there must had been at a bare minimum fifty or so people that walked by. They paused, said something idiotic and moved on. Everyone was ignorant to the struggle unfolding before them. It wasn't until the fin-less fish floated to the top did one couple stop to note what was happening. I don't know why it bothered me so much, but it did. I never have had faith in people, but I'm always amazed at how unobservant they can really be.

..|.. the weather
01:38pm 08/03/2005
  Is there an enormous rupture in the ozone layer above my house? Myke and I departed for work in short sleeves and pants; we were comfortable--I would had been happy in shorts. By the time we got the office, it was snowing. That is not an exageration...fucking snow!

Argh.

Happy birthday to me.
02:22pm 23/02/2005
  [info]fuzbal and [info]naughtomaton bought me a big ole birthday present today!

I got the Costco Gamecube Hella Pack:

* Platinum Gamecube
* Mario Kart DD
* Extra Controller
* Memory Card

I can now play Mario Kart from the comfort of my room. If I get the LAN adapter, we could play competively...in different rooms! Or we could have 8 person tournaments or something.

You guys rock.

Third again

  Trivia night-third place.

We came in third again; this time we went from 8th to 3rd. That was much more satisfying than going from 1st to 3rd.

  Today at lunch, I paid cash, and received change in amount that was greater than what I had handed the cashier. After a few moments of confusion on my face, I pointed out the error and she made it right...maybe, I think I still ended up with a dollar more than I should have. Oh well. I did something good by not making her lose $50 out of her pocket.
